Barbara Sumner joined itim in 1994, after a career that took her to many countries: Germany, Iran, the U.K., the Netherlands, Belgium, and France. As native of the U.S., but also a citizen of Belgium, she has worked and lived for more than 30 years outside of North America. During much of this time, she has been in Information Technology and training management -- for Electronic Data Systems, Honeywell-Bull, IKEA, and Mastercard.
As an itim licensee, she has worked with a variety of companies in the chemical, banking, IT, pharmaceutical, and manufacturing industries to include ExxonMobil, Boeing, Eli Lilly, Pfizer, GSK, HP, Toyota Europe, General Motors, International Paper, Citibank and Fortis Bank.
She is familiar with the challenges faced by virtual, global teams and how to solve them - having often designed and delivered workshops focused on India, China, Russia, Latin America and the Middle East. She also works with executive/CEO,VP groups and large audiences of up to 1,200.
Some 6 years ago, Barbara realized that the intercultural approach could be complemented by a knowledge of personality types. She obtained certification in the Myers-Briggs personality assessment and now offers an approach to solving business problems which looks at both culture and personality.
Barbara Sumner is fluent in English, German and French. She has learned some Chinese and Farsi/Persian, but does not claim to remember it all. She has earned two advanced degrees (M.A.) in International Relations and Linguistics.
