One of the most international of Americans, with experience spanning some 75 countries, Frank Nettleton joined itim in 2004. As a student of languages, Frank spent one year in Europe and another in the Middle East. He holds an M.A. degree in Near Eastern Studies and a certificate in Training and Human Resource Development from the University of California at Berkeley, as well as a BA in Anthropology. Besides an exceptional mastery of his native English, Frank has fluent command of Arabic and German, strong academic background in French and Turkish, and study exposure to seven other languages. Frank began his professional career in the 1970’s, serving as a local company representative for Aramco to all agencies of the Saudi Arabian government. Since then he has worked in management and performance-improvement positions on major international infrastructure and development-aid projects. Highlights include serving as representative to and support services manager for the client for two new mega-airports at Riyadh and Dammam, Saudi Arabia; managing technical assistance and training services for a USAID power-sector project in India; performing consulting assignments in organizational and HR performance improvement for USAID in Egypt and the Asian Development Bank in Viet Nam; managing project services (eight functions, including technology transfer) on the Korea High Speed Rail (bullet train) project; and managing training and sustainability programs for USAID’s Infrastructure Reconstruction Project in Iraq. Licensed by itim in both Intercultural Management (national culture) and Organizational Culture, Frank is also a certified Intercultural Readiness Check Consultant. He lives with his family in San Francisco, USA.
