Fredrik Wicklund is a Swede who has spent 12 years of his life in an international environment. Having lived, studied or worked in 17 countries and visited around 40, he has developed a strong interest in how and why we differ across cultures, how differences in language structure, history, religion, philosophy and geographical location explain different mentalities and attitudes and how these factors affect human interaction in different situations.
Fredrik experienced his first real encounter with other cultures at the age of ten when he and his family moved to the United Arab Emirates and he attended an international school with 37 different nationalities. His university years were spent in Sweden, Germany, UK and Italy and he holds a BA (Hons) in Media and Communications with Italian. His interest in Intercultural Communication was first ignited while studying German at the University of Stockholm in 1993.
In his work, Fredrik was randomly thrown into different cultural environments, including Croatia, Finland, Romania, The British Virgin Islands, Dominica, The Maldives, Nigeria, Greece, Indonesia and Kuwait. He produced sector-by-sector country reports published in the most respected international newspapers and magazines, which involved conducting hundreds of interviews directly with Heads of State, ministers, CEOs and other top decision makers. The work was initiated by creating a network of corporate and political contacts and required a diplomatic and non-confrontational approach.
After several years abroad, he returned to the Nordic region and worked within External Communications for a Finnish company before joining itim in Sweden in 2007. He speaks fluent Swedish, English and German and conversational Italian and has been exposed to Arabic. He is a member of SIETAR (Society for Intercultural Education, Training and Research), Delta Intercultural Academy and the Foreign Policy Association. Fredrik is a passionate painter and loves to travel, read up on history and play tennis.
