"I am not bothered by the fact that I am unknown. I am bothered when I do not know others." (Confucius in Analects 14:25) is one of Maria Gutehall’s favorite quotes. This quotation, which inspired Maria all these years that understanding other people in a deeper level, is one of the most rewarding things to do in life and it is certainly a continuous process. Many people often say "I want to be known," Maria, however, not only did not agree with that, she disregarded it and believed that in order to be accepted, it is always a two way process. Without the ability to know the other side, it just stays in its place and it will not grow. Maria continuously does her part learning more about people in every single opportunity in her daily life. One of the lessons she learned in life is to never assume things about people, people learn to be familiar with another person by practicing the power of each virtue to govern a reciprocal relationship. Maria Gutehall was born into a Filipino family and was raised in Manila, capital of the Philippines. Maria felt that the influence of the Spanish, the Americans, the British, the Japanese and the Chinese who colonised the Philippines, gave the country a beautiful mix of sophistication that made her curiosity about culture as a never ending process in life. Maria studied Bachelor of Science in Tourism at the University of Santo Tomas, one of the oldest universities in the Philippines. Right after university, Maria held several jobs in sales and marketing positions. The longest years were at Jardine Caldbeck, Inc. (Jardine Matheson- joint venture with Moet-Hennesy and Bacardi-Martini LVMH group) and held the title of Sales and Marketing Manager. In December 2000, Maria married to a Swede and moved to Jönköping, Sweden. She got a job in Isaberg Rapid AB in Hestra at the Marketing Department and worked as an international PR from 2001 to 2003. Maria studied Copywriting and Executive PR course at Berghs School of Communication in Stockholm and MBA in International Marketing Management at the University of Gävle in Sweden whilst worked as a PR and Marketing consultant from 2003 to 2007. In January 2008, Maria joined itim international as Client Strategy Manager. Her primary role is to develop marketing and sales opportunities, serve as liaison between client needs and itim’s consultants to ensure successful execution of all client solutions, strengthen key client relationships with senior decision makers and broaden itim’s strategic direction and solution mix through key client relationships and engagements. She likes the challenge of changes, varieties and diversities; therefore, she considered her new role in itim international as one of the most rewarding roles in her professional life. Maria is involved in several projects in different business networking groups in Sweden: Shenet, American Women’s Club AWC, English Speaking Club ESC, Klättringklubben, Xing Business Networking, and the Royal Sweden –Hong Kong Society. Maria speaks fluent English and Swedish. She has conversational levels in Spanish, French, Japanese and little understanding of Chinese.
