During his international career he learned, that respecting and managing cultural diversity between nations, organisations and professions, gives organisations a competitive edge. He became so passionate about the results he saw, that he decided to make it his daily work. His added value comprises facilitating people and organisations to embed innovative organisational climates, (self) leadership development and cultural dynamics management as critical success factors for enduring performance improvement.

Before joining itim he worked for twenty-five years for multinational companies. Last he was Director Personnel & Organisation at Boots’ International Retail Division, responsible for human resourcing of Greenfield operations in different countries. Beforehand he worked for Texaco’s Marketing & Distribution Division as Customer Service Development Director, Western Europe, responsible for setting up and maintaining customer service operating standards. Previously at Texaco he was a leader of global project teams, responsible for business process improvement and TQM projects at subsidiaries, joint-ventures and affiliates around the world. He started his career at Texaco as Head of Personnel & Organisation in the Benelux countries. In his earlier career he was an International Executive Searcher at Hyphen Consulting International and Personnel Manager at the Media Informatics Group, ANWB Royal Dutch Tourist Association and Vroom & Dreesmann Department Stores.

Since 1999 he works as international management consultant and executive coach. He conducted assignments around the world and in industries like Utilities, Retail, Tourist & Travel, Traffic & Transport, Technology & IT, Oil & Offshore Industry, Finance & Banking and Pharmaceutical & Industrial Goods. His assignments comprised feasibility studies and integration projects on international corporate strategy, mergers and acquisitions, corporate culture and management styles. Also projects on improving international performance, innovation, entrepreneurship and cooperation were part of his portfolio. Finally, assignments on the management of business partnerships, outsourcing and off shoring are part of his experience.

He is an Advisory Board Member of the Rotterdam Business School, where he also is a guest lecturer. Sjaak is a native of the Netherlands. Next to his mother tongue, he speaks English, German and French. He graduated (MA) at the University of Amsterdam in Sociology of Management and Organisation and at the SOSA, the Institute of Applied Social Sciences in Rotterdam in Labour Market Politics and Personnel Management (BAA). At the moment he takes a sabbatical on his PhD on ‘the effectiveness of the cross-cultural transfer of management practices’.

Sjaak loves travelling with his wife, all sports, visual arts, film and music, sailing his boat, touring his convertible and playing golf.
