He joined itim in 2003 to work in intercultural management. His interest in intercultural issues grew during the more than 25 years of working in development cooperation and he became fascinated by Hofstede’s approach as early as 1985. During this time he lived and worked for eight years in Malaysia, Mali and India and short-term assignments have taken him to many other countries.

How to be more effective in inter-cultural cooperation was his particular interest during his 5-year stay in India during the nineties where he was Country Director of a large German development agency. During the last three years he worked as Senior Advisor in corporate strategy in Germany. Walter’s particular interest is the implication of cultural differences on organisational management and the influence of culture on political, social and economic systems and practices.

He has a strong affinity to his home which is the Alpine region, hence he loves mountains and the view from their peaks. And he loves India to the extend that some of his Indian friends are convinced he has already had a previous live on the subcontinent. Walter is fluent in English and German and sufficient in French.
